How did you get started
My interest in trapping began while young, but I didn't have the opportunity to pursue it. Once I moved to Alaska to attend college, I finally had the chance. Friends helped to teach me and I got LOTS of help from ATA meetings and schools.
Special memories
  • Learning as I went and making lots of mistakes along the way.
  • Every time I caught a species for the first time, including where it was and what the set was like.
  • Dean Wilson's patience in teaching me how to do a better job of fleshing and skinning. I will always treasure Dean's trapping stories and wisdom.
  • Adding a dog team to my 'line this year.
  • Helping the Girl Scouts learn to trap and skin beaver, share the meat with elders and use the fur to make hats. [Mike served as the Coordinator of ATA's Chena River Beaver Trapping Program.]
